An antique American Empire mahogany butler’s sideboard desk. The piece is constructed of mahogany with poplar and pine secondary woods. It features a backsplash with shaped supports atop a rectangular top that overhangs the case. At top is a center fall front, which opens to a writing surface with gilt embossed green leather panel and a fitted interior with drawers and cubby holes, flanked by two pairs of stacked drawers. At bottom are three stacked drawers flanked by cabinet doors that open to reveal interior spaces with shelves, all divided by turned pilaster supports. The drawers feature hand-cut dovetail joints and round knobs. It rises on short turned legs atop ball feet. There are no visible maker’s marks.
