An antique Bent Wood Churn , No.2, 4 Gallon, made by the M. Brown & Company of Wapakoneta, Ohio. The churn box is uniquely made featuring a center section of wood bent into the shape of a ‘U’ and the legs of each side also made from a single piece of wood. There are four half-circle paddles that pulled the cream to the center. The sides display floral decals on the two sides and clearly stenciled manufacturing markings. This butter churn dates between 1882 (when a second patent for the four paddles was granted) and the early 1900s. The company went out of business in 1912 due to a lumberyard fire.
Dimensions
The height includes the porcelain knob which is 1.25 inches. The width is for the churn box; including the handle (5") and hardware (2"), the total width is 22 inches.
