A 1980 offset lithograph exhibition poster titled R.R. at Leo’s by renowned American modern artist Robert Rauschenberg (1925 – 2008), for a show of the artist’s work at Leo Castelli Gallery, New York and published by the gallery in a limited edition of 500. This print features Rauschenberg’s signature style of collage work, including images of a wolf, sailboats, a map, and a scrap of denim fabric. The title ‘R.R. at Leo’s’ is written across the upper edge, along with the address of the gallery. This work is floating on a light beige background and is presented under glass, in a blond wood shadowbox frame and is ready to hang with a wire.
Rauschenberg was a “Neo-Dada” Abstract Expressionist who is most well known for his mixed media and found object works. After service in the U.S. Navy, Rauschenberg studied art at the Kansas City Art Institute, the Académie Julian in Paris, and Black Mountain College. In the mid-1950s he began working on his self-coined “Combines’ works, which combined both painting and sculpture. Working across a variety of mediums in his career, Rauschenberg would later develop works in serigraphs, textiles, photography, and performance. His early works served as a precursor to the American Pop Art movement. Rauschenberg’s works can be found in a variety of institutions, including The Museum of Modern Art, The Guggenheim, and more.
