An original ink drawing on paper by American artist Carol J. Mathews (1956-2015). This drawing depicts several insects rendered in fluid black line work on a simple white ground, with a list of words inscribed to the upper left. This piece is unsigned, and the artist’s name is indicated to the verso. It is presented behind a black mat and liner, under glass, in a black composite frame and is ready to hang with sawtooth brackets.
Mathews, known for her colorful and expressive paintings and drawings, describes her work as follows: ‘having painted for over 25 years, it is difficult to describe my art but whimsical, abstract, and fantasy come to mind.’ After years of suffering from mental illness, Carol’s art became a crucial conduit for her internal turmoil.
