Vintage Hand-Knotted Anatolian Area Rug

A vintage Anatolian area rug. This short-pile wool rug is hand knotted in an abrashed palette of coral, crimson, camel, taupe, cocoa and mocha. It begins with a large, layered polygonal medallion grounded in crimson, camel and taupe, the medallion resting on a coral field. Arrayed along the outer edges of the field are lappets of varying height, grounded in cocoa and camel. Fillers include palmettes, flower stalks, stars and pickets. Framing the field are compound borders, including a main border filled with flowers and hexagons over mocha and minor borders featuring meander patterns over camel. Selvedges are flat and double overcast, ends finishing with short cotton warp fringe. The rug is unlabeled.
