An oil painting on canvas by listed German, American artist Henry Fritz (1875 – 1956) titled “Spring, Bavaria, 1936’. The work depicts an idyllic Bavarian rural landscape. The piece is rendered in an Impressionistic style. It is hand signed to the lower right and titled on the verso. It is presented in a Newcomb Macklin Co. gilt wood frame circa the 1930s, wired on the verso for hanging.
Henry Fritz was born in 1875 in Lubben, Germany. He attended Cooper Union Art School in New York City, as well as Columbia University, New York University, the National Academy of Design, the Society of Beaux-Arts Architects and the Arts Student League. During his lifetime his work was exhibited in New York City, Westchester County, NY, Sarasota, FL, Philadelphia, PA, Chestertown, MD and Boone, NC. Two of his watercolors are in the permanent collection of the Gibbs Museum in Charleston, SC.
