Hand-Knotted Sino-Persian Silk Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Sino-Persian silk area rug. This rug is rendered in a palette of madder red, black, ivory, ochre, slate, ice blue, and cranberry. The open cranberry colored field features a large pendant medallion with coordinating spandrels, each grounded in black and infilled with an abundance of boteh, and floral motifs. Framing the field is a main black hued border designed with palmettes, leaves, and flower arrangements, as well as alternating X and florette patterned guard borders, as meandering minor borders. Finishing this rug are double overcast selvedges and a silk kilim skirt with a silk warp fringe to the ends. This rug is labeled ‘Chinese’.
