Finely Hand-Knotted Persian Silk and Wool Room Sized Rug
Item Details
A finely hand-knotted Persian silk and wool room sized rug. This rug is skillfully woven and rendered in a palette of ivory, mauve, slate, saffron, powder blue, lavender, walnut, stone, rose, wine, olive, pine, and indigo. The ivory colored field is ornately designed, while beginning with a large-scale round scalloped pendant medallion, along with purling vine-work of intricate blooms, palmettes, and leaves. The densely filled field also features elaborate spandrels grounded in slate with scrolling leafy vines, as well as a medallion enclosed with a floral wreath and infilled with more blossoms. Framing the field is a main mauve grounded border designed with colorfully detailed birds, and design aspects found in the field. The main border breaks the slate grounded guard borders that are also filled with floral motifs throughout. Finishing this rug are overcast selvedges and a fine white silk warp fringe to the ends. There is are vinyl bands to the underside, and it is unlabeled.
