Hand-Knotted Tekke Bohkara Area Rug

A hand-knotted Tekke Bokhara area rug. This wool Turkmen rug is rendered in a palette of cream, scarlet, vermillion and black. It features an open lattice of Tekke-style medallions interspersed with kochak hooked guls over a cream-colored field. The field is framed by six wraparound borders, five of which feature geometric patterns, and two horizontal elem panels, one above the field and one below, each featuring geometric dyrnak and kochak motifs. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with a scarlet kilim skirt and long, fine wool warp fringe.
