Exceptional Hand-Knotted Persian Isfahan Silk and Wool Hunting Rug
Item Details
An exceptional, finely hand-knotted Persian Isfahan hunting rug, made with vegetable dyes. This beautiful wool and silk rug is rendered in a rich palette of pine, ivory, cerulean, camel, sky blue, terracotta, stone, sage, cranberry, hunter, lavender, and wheat. The deep pine hued field features a pictorial design beginning with a central scene depicting a sword bearing man on horseback along with antelope, floral motifs, and cloud forms. Framing the scene is an over populated wreath of intricately detailed colorful birds, that ends with bird and flower filled pendants. Enclosing the wreath are more birds with a trail of delicate clouds. The field also features lower spandrels that depict a hunting scene between a jaguar and antelope, while the upper spandrels feature exquisite phoenix motifs, while each feature flowering vine-work. Framing the field is a small sage colored border designed with more vines forming a scalloped edge. Finishing this rug are overcast selvedges and a silk kilim skirt with an embroidered stripe, as well as silk knotted warp fringe to the ends. It is labeled to the underside.
