Finely Hand-Knotted Persian Nagsheh Tabriz Silk and Wool Area Rug
Item Details
A Persian nagsheh Tabriz area rug. This silk-and-wool rug is finely hand knotted in a palette of camel, burgundy, celadon, cream, onyx, camel and caramel, with prominent canary and ivory highlights. The work of master weavers, it begins with a layered medallion over a contoured, cream field with elaborate spandrels. Filling these regions are crisp, highly detailed palmettes, flowers, leaves, calyxes and vines, as well as birds of different varieties. The field is framed by seven borders, including a wide herati main border featuring doves amid shah abbasi palmettes, flowers, leaves and vines over crimson. Minor borders include herati patterns over celadon, caramel and camel. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with long fine wool warp fringe. It is labeled to the underside.
