Hand-Knotted Inscribed Turkish Hereke Silk Prayer Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Turkish Hereke silk prayer rug. This accent rug is rendered in a slight abrash palette of ivory, sapphire, scarlet, pale yellow, olive, mocha, rust, salmon, teal, terracotta, and sage. The ornate sapphire grounded mirhab features a grand vase with an overflowing flower arrangement, capped with a chandelier, and accompanied by a dense design of floral and foliate motifs. The niche is enclosed in ivory to the upper and lower portion infilled with floral themed medallions, and blossoms throughout, as well as diagonal stripes along the upper portion. Framing the field is a scarlet grounded main border with a meandering pattern of an array of floral motifs, along with leaf and blossom guard borders that has an inscription near one corner, and arrow minor borders. Finishing this rug are overcast selvedges and a silk warp fringe to the ends. This rug is unlabeled.
