A group of three pastel drawings on deckle edge paper by listed Cincinnati artist Merle Rosen (1949 – 2017), with two created in 2004 and one in 2003. The works feature stylized portraits portrayed with vibrant colors and bold delineations in the artist’s signature style, accented with graphite pencil. The pieces are signed and dated to the versos and presented unframed.

Merle Rosen (1949 – 2017) was a prominent Cincinnati folk artist, creating art for more than 40 years. She showed extensively in museums and galleries including the Contemporary Arts Center (Cincinnati), J.B. Speed Museum (Louisville, KY), Kharkiv Museum in the Ukraine, Cincinnati Art Galleries, Carnegie Arts Center (Covington, KY), Chaucer Galleries (Scottsdale, AZ), and C.A.G.E. During her lifetime, Rosen received six individual artists grants from the City of Cincinnati. In addition to institutional and private collections, Rosen’s work his housed in numerous corporate collections, including: The Christ Hospital, Cincinnati Bell, Scripps Howard, Bethesda Hospitals, Ulmer & Berne and Cardinal Aluminum. Rosen worked in a multitude of mediums and she began teaching art professionally at the age of 15 and taught throughout her career.
