Large Hand-Knotted Turkish Kayseri Area Rug

A large Turkish Kayseri area rug. This wool rug is hand knotted in a palette of camel, ruby, sapphire, sky blue, blush and pale celadon. It features a floral arabesque design beginning with an ogival, layered medallion over a contoured lozenge grounded in camel. The lozenge, in turn, rests on a sky blue field with ruby-and-camel corners. Six borders frame the field, including a wide herati main border featuring meandering palmettes and vines over ruby. Minor borders grounded in blush, celadon, sky blue and zephyr yellow also feature herati variations. Selvedges are double overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short cotton warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
