An oil painting on canvas by American artist Judge Edward (Ed) J. Hummer (20th century). This piece depicts the portrait of a man with shoulder-length dark hair in profile facing right, a wooden cart and figures before a Mission-style church providing the backdrop. It is unsigned and presented unframed as a stretched canvas.
Judge Edward (Ed) J. Hummer was born in Weehawken, New Jersey and received his formal education at the University of Notre Dame studying fine arts and accounting. Later he received a Doctorate in Jurisprudence but continued his art education while traveling to Paris, France. Hummer studied privately with painter Carl Kappas, C. Curry Bohm, and Fred W. Rigley in Brown County, Indiana. Hummer is best known for his landscapes, in particular the Colorado Rockies and figurative landscapes of the United States and Mexico. He primarily works in oil paintings and pastel creating rich and vibrant scenes. Hummer’s work is housed in private collections across the United States.
