An antique hand-knotted Turkish area rug. This wool rug features a Persian-style design in a palette of carmine, deep midnight blue and camel. It begins with a delicately rendered allover herati pattern, incorporating palmettes, flowers, lancet leaves and stylized vines over a carmine field. The field is framed by five borders, including an expressively stylized herati main border grounded in midnight blue, featuring palmettes, split leaves and other foliates and vines. Minor borders feature chevrons, rosettes and arrows over camel. Selvedges are double overcast, the rug finishing at each end with unbound wool warp fringe.
