Hand-Knotted Persian Bakhtiari Medallion Area Rug
Item Details
A large Persian Bakhtiari area rug. This wool rug is hand knotted in a palette of ruby, sapphire, burgundy, aubergine, rose, coral and ivory. It begins with a large-scale, layered star medallion filled with palmettes, vases, flowers and foliates, elements that continue in the field and corners. The medallion rests on a ruby field with sapphire spandrels. Framing the field are three borders, including a wide, semi-freeform herati main border grounded in burgundy and filled with palmettes, flowers and meandering vines in ivory. The main border is flanked by carnation-meander minor borders grounded in ivory or aubergine. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short ivory cotton warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
