A hand-knotted Indo-Heriz area rug. This Indian-made wool rug is rendered in a palette of rust, cornsilk, cream, sage and midnight blue. It begins with a large, layered medallion in midnight blue and cream, the medallion resting on a crenellated rust field with cream spandrels. Fillers include stylized palmettes, flowers, leaves and vines. The field is framed by a turtle-pattern border over midnight blue. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with cotton warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
