A hand-knotted Pakistani-Kazak area rug. This wool rug features a Kazak-style design in a palette of sapphire, red, cream, mustard and taupe. It begins with a vertical row of three medallions over a sapphire field, which is filled with cruciform motifs, stars and other geometric elements. The field is framed by four borders, including two meander-pattern minor borders over red and a main border grounded in cream, featuring abstracted palmette motifs and geometrics. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with ivory cotton warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
