A lithograph on BFKRives paper by well listed Surrealist artist Salvador Dalí (Spanish; 1904-1989); titled The Tower, from the Lyle Stuart Tarot Prints series, dated 1978. This work was created after an original gouache painting and was intended to appear in the 1973 James Bond film “Live or Let Die”. The piece features Dali’s representation of the tarot card ‘The Tower’ depicting an image of Saint Sebastian and a faceless female nude floating among a cloudy nocturnal abyss; it was originally comprised of a photo collage and a gouache painting, subsequently converted into a lithograph. The stated plates created under Lyle Stuart were destroyed after a 250 tirage. The work is signed in graphite to the lower right. It is numbered 124 out of a 250 edition to the lower left. The composition is presented beneath double matting, behind acrylic glass, housed in a wood frame with an aged gold-tone finish. Includes a certificate of authenticity from Art Showcase Auction.

Salvador Dalí was born in Figueres, Spain and is known for his Surrealist and otherworldly compositions. He was encouraged to pursue his artistic inclinations at a young age and in 1922 he enrolled at the Academia de San Fernando in Madrid, Spain. As most artists during his lifetime, Dalí moved to Paris to collaborate with his contemporaries including Picasso, Magritte, and Miro. Dalí’s body of work is based on his ability to translate his profound understanding of what is just beyond human consciousness into something tangible. Dalí’s extensive oeuvre can be seen in many public collections including the MoMA, New York; the Salvador Dalí Museum, Florida; and the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago among many others.
