An early to mid 20th-century etching on rag paper titled Up the Hill after an 1879 work by listed artist James D. Smillie (American; 1833 – 1909). The piece depicts a wooded landscape, with a winding tree-lined country road to the center, rendered in expressive dark lines against a background of variegated cream and light brown. The print is signed ‘Smillie’ in plate to the lower left and inscribed ‘No. 10, 1879’ in plate to the lower right. It is matted in cream and presented unframed.
