Salvador Dalí Etching "Judah"

Item Details

Signed

An etching on Rives paper titled Judah from the series The Twelve Tribes of Israel by well-listed artist Salvador Dalí (Spanish, 1904 – 1989). The work is number 68 in a limited edition of 195. To the lower right margin is the artist’s signature in graphite. To the verso is Hebrew and English text regarding the Biblical leader. The piece is housed under acrylic glass and fabric matting in a wood frame.

Salvador Dalí was born in Figueres, Spain and is known for his Surrealist and otherworldly compositions. He was encouraged to pursue his artistic inclinations at a young age and in 1922 he enrolled at the Academia de San Fernando in Madrid, Spain. As most artists during his lifetime, Dalí moved to Paris to collaborate with his contemporaries including Picasso, Magritte, and Miro. Dalí’s body of work is based on his ability to translate his profound understanding of what is just beyond human consciousness into something tangible. Dalí’s extensive oeuvre can be seen in many public collections including the MoMA, New York; the Salvador Dalí Museum, Florida; and the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago among many others.

  • This piece is included in the catalogue raisonné, “The Official Catalog of the Graphic Works of Salvador Dali” by Albert Field, catalogue page 78.
