A hand-knotted Persian Khorassan area rug. This wool rug features an elaborate Kashmar vase design in a palette of midnight blue, scarlet, cream, cerulean and camel. It begins with a large star medallion filled with images of palmettes and vases. The medallion rests on a midnight blue field, which is densely populated with decorated vases, flowers, palmettes, lancet leaves and vines. Framing the field is a contoured interior border grounded in camel and a broken wraparound border featuring splashes of cerulean over a repeating picket pattern. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with variegated braided cotton warp fringe. It is unalabeled.
