A limited edition woodblock print titled Woman and Child by well-listed American artist and art critic Arthur Danto (1924-2013), created in 1956. This work is dated ‘’56’ and signed ‘A. Danto’ by hand in graphite to the lower right; it is titled and numbered 9 out of an edition 40 to the lower left. Presented under glass with beige matting, it is housed in a gold-tone metal frame. A couple frame labels are adhered to the verso.

Best known as a long-time art critic for The Nation, Arthur Danto championed the work of avant-garde artists such as Marcel Duchamp and Andy Warhol. However, as an artist himself, he is especially known for his sketchy abstract style exhibited in his figural woodblock prints. His work has been represented by prestigious institutions including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Detroit Institute of Arts, and the National Gallery of Art, among others.
