A charcoal drawing on paper of a portrait in the manner of Jacopo Robusti Tintoretto (1518 – 1594). This early to mid 18th century monochromatic drawing depicts a circa 16th century figure posed in frontal portraiture, as they tilt their gaze while wearing formal clothing featuring a large, popped collar. The unsigned drawing is presented under glass beneath matting in a gold tone wooden gessoed frame with sawtooth brackets to the verso for hanging. Handwritten inscriptions are to the interior of the presentation, reading ‘drawing by Intnel ’ and ’Attention !! Tintoretto.’
Condition
- work was examined outside of frame; image paper is discolored, dirty & stained; some holes throughout the image area creating image loss; some scuffing throughout the image area creating image loss; gold tone wood & gesso frame showing nicks and scratches around the frame.
