A first edition 1956 publication titled Antique Chinese Portraits by Beatrice D’Este, printed at Arte Grafica Ricordi, Milan and translated to english by Hanna Kiel. The terra cotta cloth slipcase protects the inner green silk covered pull out clam shell case containing the sixteen page booklet (gathered by hand sewn silk thread) and the complete collection of ten color plates. The booklet describing in detail each of the ten portraits printed on silk mounted and framed, and protected with a leaf which has an imprinted number (series 1-10). The Portraits include; Lon-Suen, great Taoistic Abbot, mythical Emperor, Taoistic Monk, Lady at Court, Young Lady, Lady in Court Dress, Portrait high Personage in Court Robe, Wife of a Mandarin, Mandarin with Wives and Yan-Tien Warden of Heaven.
