Antique Hand-Knotted Persian Sarab Long Rug

Item Details

An antique Persian Sarab long rug. This artistically rendered camel-hair and wool rug is hand knotted in a palette of camel, azure, powder blue, blush, coral and midnight blue. It begins with an allover soft-diamond lattice filled with florets and abstract motifs over a long, narrow camel-colored field. Framing this field are several borders of varying widths, including a carnation-meander pattern and a minor border grounded in azure and powder blue featuring an unusual, tile-like repeating pattern of florets framed in mocha-colored polygons. The most dramatic of the six borders is a wide outer border, grounded in camel, featuring large, widely spaced botehs, the motifs comprised of floret subparts. Once overcast, the selvedges are almost completely worn away. The rug finishes at each end with unbound wool and camel-hair fringe. It is unlabeled.
