Item Details
A hand-knotted Persian Kashan area rug. This wool rug is rendered in a palette of bright ruby, midnight blue, cream, azure, caramel and coral. It begins with a layered, round medallion with palmette spokes over a ruby field. The field is populated with arabesqued palmettes, flowers, leaves and vines, elements that continue in the spandrels. Six borders frame the field, including a herati main border grounded in midnight blue, featuring meandering palmettes. Minor borders include botehs over cream and floral-meander patterns over azure. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
