Headstone Rubbing

A graphite rubbing on paper of a headstone inscription. This rubbing reads ‘Eleanor. Consort of James Butcher DIED May 10, 1818’ with a final line that appears to read ‘Aged 22’. The paper has had the edges burnt and it is mounted on a black cloth ground, behind glass, and in a black painted wood frame with a saw-tooth bracket to the verso for hanging.

- accretion under glass; minor surface wear to frame.
