Hand-Painted Reproduction Porcelain Tureen After Qing Dynasty Oil Painting
Item Details
A Chinese hand-painted reproduction porcelain tureen. This hand-painted tureen is decorated after a Qing Dynasty oil painting by a European painter of the Thirteen Factories, or Canton Factories. The factories were an epicenter of cultural activity during 1757-1841 and were spread out along the Pearl River in Guangzhou. The body of the tureen displays the multicolored factory buildings with their national flags flying above, and a fitted lid decorated with a scene of the Pearl River trimmed in gilt and adorned with an acorn finial glazed in raspberry and cream hues. The underside bears a red underglaze crown mark with a ribbon bearing the date ‘1897’. The piece is accompanied with paperwork.
