Item Details
Masonite
Signed
An original 1979 acrylic painting on masonite by very well-listed and prolific contemporary German Neo-Expressionist Peter Robert Keil (Berlin; born 1942). The painting depicts a bright flowering potted plant set against a vivid blue background. This piece is signed and dated in black to the lower right. It is presented without framing.
Influenced by German Expressionism and graffiti elements, Keil is known for his simplified abstractions of traditional art subjects. He studied under Otto Nagel at a young age and developed relationships with other renowned artists such as Joan Miro. As Keil abandoned realism and developed his signature style, he used more vibrant colors rapidly applied with large gestural brushstrokes resembling the abstract style of Picasso.
Condition
- to poor. Significant chipping to painting’s surface, particularly to plant’s leaves.
