An antique hand-colored engraving on paper titled Le Butor after listed artist and naturalist François-Nicolas Martinet (French; 1731 – 1800). The image originates as a plate from one of the books Martinet contributed imagery to, such as Ornithologie or Buffon’s Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux, and depicts a bittern standing next to ground vegetation in its natural habitat. The print is titled and attributed in plate to the lower left. It is presented under glass and French-style matting in a black and gold tone wooden frame fitted with hanging wire to the verso.

- to fair; discoloration, toning and foxing to paper and matting; wear, scuffs and finish loss to frame.
