Hand-Colored Engraving of Woodpecker After Martinet "Le Pic Verd"

An antique hand-colored engraving on paper titled Le Pic Verd after listed artist and naturalist François-Nicolas Martinet (French; 1731 – 1800), originating as a plate from Buffon’s Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux. The piece depicts a European green woodpecker perched upon the side of a tree in its natural habitat. The print is titled and attributed in plate to the lower margin. It is presented under glass and French-style matting in a black and gold tone wooden frame fitted with hanging wire to the verso.

- to fair; discoloration, foxing and toning to print and matting; finish loss, scuffs and wear to frame.
