A pair of woodblock prints on rice paper by ukiyo-e artist Ohara (Shōson) Koson (小原古邨, Japanese; 1878 – 1945). Featured is Kingfisher with Lotus Flower, depicting a small kingfisher perched upon a lotus stem; the piece is marked with a reversed Koson seal in block to lower left. No other signature is present. Also featured is Sparrows and Wisteria, depicting a group of brown sparrows perched near green leaves and blue flowers; it includes a ‘Koson’ signature and seal in plate to the lower right. Both prints are inscribed ‘Authorized Edition, Nishinomiya yosaku’ (版權所有, 西宮與作) in plate along the left margin and presented unframed.

Condition

- toning, stains and discoloration to prints, with foxing to edges; wear and creasing to edges of paper; works are unframed.
