Hand-Knotted Persian Qashqai Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Persian Qashqai area rug. This wool rug is rendered in a palette of strawberry, burgundy, burnt sienna, black, ivory, azure and green. It begins with a pair of hexagonal Qashqai medallions nested in a strawberry serrated lozenge amid flowering plants and serpent motifs, elements that continue in the field. The lozenge in turn rests on a black field, each corner of which features a quatrefoil shield. Compound borders include running dog patterns and cruciform-bracket motifs. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with variegated wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
