Antique Hand-Knotted Persian Hamadan "Vase" Area Rug
Item Details
An antique Persian Hamadan area rug. This wool rug is hand knotted in a palette of scarlet, camel, midnight blue, rose, apricot and azure. It features a vase design beginning with an eight-lobed palmetted medallion over a scarlet field. The field is populated with two vase forms, whirling sprays of flowers and palmettes. Three borders frame the field, including a wide, highly stylized herati primary border grounded in camel and filled with palmettes and geometric vines and foliates. Minor borders feature meandering floral patterns over midnight blue. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at one end with a mesh skirt, while the other end has incidental warp fringe made of wool and goat hair secured by reinforcement stitching. It is unlabeled.
