A Chinese gouache painting on silk in the manner of Giuseppe Castiglione (1688-1766), an Italian Jesuit missionary and artist in the Qing courts under the name Lang Shining. This piece depicts two white birds with dark bellies on a log flanked by flowers beneath an overhanging cherry blossom tree branch. It is inscribed ‘臣郎世寧恭繪’ (‘A respectful painting by Chen after Lang Shining’) with a red seal to the lower right and presented behind glass in a gold tone wood frame with wire to the verso for hanging.
