Job en Prierè (Job Praying) 1960
Color lithograph on paper
Unsigned

A color lithograph on paper titled Job en Prierè (Job Praying) designed by very well-listed Russian-French Expressionist Marc Chagall (1887 – 1985), for his series Drawing for the Bible. It was printed by Mourlot and published in the Parisian art journal Verve in 1960. This work is mounted to a light brown background, and is presented behind an off-white mat, under glass, in a wood frame with a gold-tone and black finish. A hanging wire is present to the verso.

Marc Chagall was a renowned Russian born Jewish artist who later moved to Paris and gained French citizenship. He studied at the Imperial Society for the Protection of the Arts in Saint Petersburg, and later was a member of the Ecole de Paris, exhibiting at the Salon des Indépendants and the Salon d’Automne. Chagall’s work, influenced by living through both World Wars, is inspired by his Jewish heritage and incorporates elements of Fauvism and Cubism as well as aspects of traditional Russian and Jewish folk art. His work has been exhibited and collected internationally both privately and by institutions including the Guggenheim, the Museum of Modern Art, Centre Pompidou and Tate Modern.
