A charcoal drawing on paper by listed American artist Edgar Yaeger. This softly-shaded figure study depicts a seated nude woman, the top of her head just cut off by the edge of the paper. It is signed and dated 1938 to the lower right and presented unframed in a protective acetate sleeve.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
