A 19th century watercolor triptych of the entrance to the Venice Grand Canal by artist Thomas Hart. This piece depicts a scene of sailboats on a clear, calm sea with a string of red-roofed buildings along the shore in the large center piece. The work is signed ‘Hart’ to the lower right of the center piece, and all three panels are framed together behind glass in a wooden frame with three windows of gold tone edging. There is wire to the verso for hanging.
Condition
- discoloration present throughout each painting; puncture at right side of ground and surface abrasion at top left on left-side small painting; foxing at lower right side of larger center painting; foxing and smudge marks at bottom center and top left of right-side small painting; chips along edges of frame around paintings; chips and wear to wooden frame; punctures, discoloration, and aging adhesive throughout backing paper on verso of frame.
