A vintage, fine hand-knotted Kashan area rug, having a rare design for the region. This wool rug is rendered in a palette of red, orange, brown, black, ivory, yellow and shades of blue. It features a red field filled with horizontal rows of rectilinear vases and bouquets interspersed with a variety of fillers, including birds, rectilinear flowers, S shapes and abstract geometric motifs. The field is framed by two borders, including a wide primary border grounded in deep midnight blue and filled with a freeform, semi-curvilinear herati pattern featuring palmettes and meandering vines. Selvedges are overcast; the ends finishing with short cotton ivory warp fringe. The rug is unlabeled.
