Hand-Knotted Persian-Inspired Wool Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Persian-inspired room-size wool area rug. The carpet has been worked in vivid shades of crimson, ivory, azure, robin’s egg blue, sky, crimson, salmon, cream, fawn, and olive. A large lobed pendant diamond medallion is edged in scrolled leaves and infilled with floral motifs. It is surrounded by eight-petaled flowers. The ivory and robin’s egg blue spandrels also feature stylized flowers and vines. The compound borders include reciprocal sawtooth bands and floral meanders on either side of a wide primary border populated by large palmettes and scrolling blue leaves. The selvedges have been overcast by hand and there is cotton fringe at each end. The rug is not labeled.
