A bronze sculpture on a wooden base by Giacomo Manzù. The piece depicts a male and a female figure embracing as they fall to the ground. The piece is cast in a simplistic and expressionistic manner representative of Manzù’s technique. It is marked ‘Manzù NFMM’ on the edge closest to the woman’s feet and presented on a wooden base.

Giacomo Manzù created notable works include the Door of Death for St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome as well as monumental bronze doors for the Cathedral of Salzburg in Austria, and the St. Laurens Church in Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

Condition

- signs of oxidation across surface of piece, notably to female figure’s inner thigh and edge along side of signature; minor scuffing to surface of piece; slight loss of material to edges of base; circular impressions and writing to bottom of base.
