Vintage Inscribed Hand-Knotted Persian Qashqai Area Rug
Item Details
A vintage, inscribed hand-knotted inscribed Persian Qashqai area rug, dated 1951. This wool rug features a central stepped diamond medallion in a crimson field filled with a variety of geometrically stylized flowers, birds, animals, and hooked guls with a notched side border and stepped spandrels with additional flowers and geometric guls in an indigo ground. The rug has an ivory-grounded herati primary border with a two petal calyx secondary border and geometric guard borders. It is finished with overcast selvedges, a knotted cotton warp fringe, and has multiple scripted inscriptions within the center medallion and all four spandrel corners, showing the date 1951. It is otherwise unlabeled or marked.
