Hand-Knotted Persian Afshar Wool Long Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Persian Afshar wool long rug. The carpet has been woven in shades of ivory, salmon, azure, indigo, midnight, shrimp, and tea. The deep blue field is occupied by an oblong medallion with stepped diamond pendants. It is infilled with an elongated octagon with a stepped diamond central motif and finishes in three peaked niches at each end on an ivory background. This element is bordered with narrow barber pole stripes and flanked by split leaf/tree-of-life motifs. Hooked diamonds repeat within and without the central medallion. The compound borders include plain, stylized floral meander, chained diamond, and lobed flower motifs. The selvedges have been finished by hand in two colors and there is wool fringe at each end. The carpet is not marked.
