Erté Serigraph "Letter C"

A limited edition serigraph print on paper by well listed Russian-born artist and illustrator Romain “Erté” de Tirtoff (1892–1990). This Art Deco style work depicts a female nude figure surrounded by billowy pink clouds, forming the shape of an C against a black background. The work is signed by hand in graphite to the lower right. It is numbered 310 out of 350. It is presented behind glass in a white mat and black and gold tone wood frame. Hanging hardware is present to the verso.

Roman De Tirtoff, known by the pseudonym Erté, is a Russian-born French designer who flourished in many fields including set design, fashion, and the graphic arts, spanning most of the 20th century. He began working for Harper’s Bazaar in 1915 creating over 240 covers for the magazine for over 22 years. His fashion illustrations appeared in numerous other publications. During 1976 Erté was awarded the title of Officer of Arts and Letters, and in 1982 the Medaille de Vermeil de la Ville de Paris by the French government. His work is housed in private and permanent collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art. New York; Museum of Modern Art, New York; and London’s Victoria & Albert Museum to name a few.

- toning throughout ground; debris beneath glass; minor foxing at lower left on mat board; scratches and wear to edges of frame; wear to finish on frame; surface abrasions throughout backing on verso of frame; adhesive residue at bottom portion of verso of frame.
