Peter Keil 1985 Oil on Masonite "Lucky Clown"
Item Details
Masonite
Signed
An original 1985 oil painting on masonite by well-listed German Neo-Expressionist painter Peter Robert Keil (born 1942), titled Lucky Clown. The piece depicts the face of a smiling portrait, rendered in Keil’s signature jewel-toned glazes and thick black contours. The painting is signed and dated to the upper right, and is marked again to the verso. This work is unframed, awaiting presentation of choice.
Influenced by German Expressionism and graffiti elements, Keil is known for his simplified abstractions of traditional art subjects. He studied under Otto Nagel at a young age and developed relationships with other renowned artists such as Joan Miro. As Keil abandoned realism and developed his signature style, he used more vibrant colors rapidly applied with large gestural brushstrokes resembling the abstract style of Picasso.
