A medallion-style embossed paper portrait of Sir Isaac Pitman. This piece depicts the teacher, who is best known for developing ‘Pitman shorthand,’ in profile, with his name along the upper edge of the composition and text reading
‘Inventor of Phonography’ to its lower. The low relief piece depicts the figure with a neatly-trimmed beard and is laid into wooden matting with a round sight edge. It is mounted in a wooden frame with a string for hanging to its verso.

Condition

- glass could be cleaned more thoroughly; worn frame finish.
