An oil painting of a river attributed to 20th century American artist Judge Edward ‘Ed’ J. Hummer. This unsigned piece depicts a series of low waterfalls in a river lined by reddish rocks and lush greenery. The painting is presented unframed and includes a label to its verso attributing the piece to Hummer.
Judge Edward (Ed) J. Hummer was born in Weehawken, New Jersey and received his formal education at the University of Notre Dame studying fine arts and accounting. Later he received a Doctorate in Jurisprudence but continued his art education while traveling to Paris, France. Hummer studied privately with painter Carl Kappas, C. Curry Bohm, and Fred W. Rigley in Brown County, Indiana. Hummer is best known for his landscapes, in particular the Colorado Rockies and figurative landscapes of the United States and Mexico. He primarily works in oil paintings and pastel creating rich and vibrant scenes. Hummer’s work is housed in private collections across the United States.
