1806 Charles Chesterman II British Sterling Silver Cruet Set
Item Details
An antique nine-piece sterling silver and glass cruet set by London silversmith, Charles Chesterman II. The set features an oval caddy with raised sides, a beaded rim, wooden base, and four feet, as well as a center handle. The caddy comes with eight glass condiment containers, including two shakers for salt and pepper with sterling lids, two large cruets for oil and vinegar with sterling lips and handles, as well as faceted cut stoppers, two smaller cruets with sterling silver lips and glass stoppers, and two castors for sugar and mustard with monogrammed sterling lids. These pieces are all stamped with the ‘CC’ maker’s mark, alongside the King George III duty mark and hallmarks for sterling and 1806. The total approximate weight of the castor lids, the one shaker lid, and the caddy handle, is 5.650 ozt. The set also comes with a set of four small glass salt spoons.
